Monday, February 24, 2020 - 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Stanford Memorial Church

Established at Memorial Church in 1994, the Roger W. Heyns Lecture in Religion and Society, is an annual event that features a major speaker focusing on problems and challenges of religion and community. This year's Heyns Speaker is Austin Channing Brown, who will present a lecture on the intersections of faith and racial justice.

She is author of "I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness". Her workshops are one of a kind, infused with justice, pop culture, humor, and truth-telling. Whether she is being interviewed, lecturing, or leading a workshop, Austin is sure to evoke a full range of emotions as she invites you to celebrate blackness with her.

Austin grew up in Toledo, OH, the oldest of 3. She attended North Park University in Chicago, IL where she earned a degree in business management. She also has a masters degree in social justice from Marygrove College in Detroit, MI. Austin’s professional career began in the non-profit sector including homelessness/housing, youth, fundraising and ministry. Now, a full-time freelance writer and speaker, Austin enjoys speaking about diversity & inclusion at conferences, churches, staff meetings, and corporations. She has had the pleasure of speaking at the Washington National Cathedral, the first AntiRacist Book Festival, the Together Live Tour with Glennon Doyle and Abby Wambach, and for the Coalition of Black Social Workers at the University of Tennessee (just to name a few).

Her first book released in May 2018, shot to the top 20 of Amazon's bestsellers list. For months it has continued to sit in the top 20 in “Christian Social Issues” and “Memoirs of Social Activists”.
