Uplifting What We Know: The Presidential Executive Orders

Uplifting What We Know: The Presidential Executive Orders

February 19 , 2025

Drear Community,

We want to acknowledge that there is a lot of information and misinformation flowing around and finding reliable sources has been difficult. This, coupled with assumptions and anxieties, has made it hard to clearly understand what is going on at any given moment. As Professional Staff of the Black House, we feel this tension deeply and can only assume you do too. We have committed ourselves to being a source of information and providing what we can. Below we outline our thoughts.

Short Term:

We are committed to staying up to date and providing resources on our website to keep track of accurate information as it is made public. The webpage is called “Dear Community”, and you can access it by clicking this link. “Dear Community” will compile communications from Stanford detailing how the Presidential Executive Orders will impact our campus. We will take our time publishing information so we uplift the facts and cut through mis/disinformation.

Long Term:

All of our spring events are still happening as of the date of this letter. This includes Admit Weekend, Academic & Community Awards, and Black Graduation. In addition, we want to field questions/concerns from you all, and respond in the following ways:

Programming

More informal gathering spaces: We are starting Community Hours. These are different times you can drop in, relax, and chat with students and professional staff. Some of the days will have activities or hot topics to discuss. Other days, you’ll simply find us unplugged and vibing.

Share your ideas with us: We want to better understand the programs and events you all need during spring and fall quarter. Please come to our Community Hours, or click here to use this form, to share your programming or questions ideas. We will use your suggestions and questions as the basis of our spring and fall workshops.  No idea is too big or small. We are surrounded by amazing scholars, activists, artists, community organizations, healers, faith practitioners, and dreamers who can support us all in understanding the world we are currently living in.
